Frequently asked questions.

What is a Doula?

A Doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals and families before, during, and after childbirth. We work alongside healthcare providers to improve the birthing experience. Doulas do not perform medical tasks or give medical advice.

How can a Doula benefit me?

You tell us. Do you need help finding your voice or aren’t sure what to be vocal about? We can provide advocacy and evidence-based knowledge. Are you concerned about unwanted interventions during labour? We can provide comfort measures, positioning and pelvic-opening techniques to help reduce the chances of medical interventions. Is your partner or family unsure how to support you in the way you need? Let us work with them to ensure everyone is included and plays their part during this special time.

The benefits of a Doula are endless. Our focus at Carepair® is to get to know our clients and cultivate a care plan that surpasses your needs.

Are Doulas covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on your specific insurance plan. Some extended health benefit plans may cover Doula services, while others may not. It’s advisable to check with your insurance provider for details.

OHIP does not cover Doula services.

Can I have a Doula if I’m planning a hospital birth?

Absolutely! Doulas can be present at home births, hospital births, and birth center births. Our role is to support you regardless of your chosen birth setting.
